It was a sunny day. Everyone would spend it outside with their families or loved ones, making exciting trips and creating new memories to be remembered for a long time. But his memories were hidden inside; away from the sun rays and all the laughter, on a dusty and shadowy attic. Only a few stairs up was where the box rested in cobwebs.
He took the box into his hands and tears threatened to escape his eyes. Sitting under the window that let in only dull streaks of light, he sat the box on his lap and breathed in fully before letting his heart wander into the past.
*0*0*0*“Open it! Open it! Open it!”Jaejoong exclaimed and took scissors from Yunho´s hands. “Don´t cut the paper, just rip it off!”
“But the paper is nice. I want to keep it.”
“If you won´t rip the paper you can´t keep the gift,” Jaejoong threatened him with a serious expression.
“Okay, then.” Yunho took hold of the loose parts of the wrapping paper and pulled them in all directions to rip the paper as much as possible. When he looked on the table again, there was a wooden box under the bits of paper. He opened it but it was empty. “Where is my gift?” he pouted.
Jaejoong pointed to the box: “This is the gift.”
“Nothing is inside.”
“The box is the gift! Isn´t it pretty? You can keep all the important things inside and here.” He gave Yunho a key. “So you will never ever lose your precious things.”
*0*0*0*“I should have locked you inside.” He turned the key and the box opened with a slight squeaking sound.
